Understanding the Triad of Health: A Holistic Framework for Wellness

As a chiropractor trained in Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT) and certified in Applied Kinesiology (AK), I work within an evidence-informed, patient-centered approach to support musculoskeletal health. One concept that helps guide this approach is the Triad of Health—a model that emphasizes the interconnectedness of three key components: structure, biochemistry, and emotional wellbeing.

Structural Support

Chiropractic care primarily addresses the structural aspect of health—such as spinal alignment, joint mobility, and posture—through manual therapies, patient education, and rehabilitative strategies.

  • Proper function of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems supports physical health and movement.

Biochemical Factors

Nutrition, hydration, and environmental exposures may influence how the body functions and heals.

  • When appropriate, chiropractors may provide general lifestyle or dietary advice in accordance with regulatory guidelines, or refer to qualified healthcare providers for further assessment.

Emotional and Mental Wellbeing

Stress, mindset, and emotional resilience can impact physical health and vice versa.

  • Mental and emotional wellbeing is an important part of a person’s overall health, and chiropractors may refer to other regulated professionals for support in this area when needed.

The Interconnection

The Triad of Health is not a diagnostic tool, but rather a conceptual model used to understand how various aspects of wellbeing interact. For example:

  • Physical discomfort may affect mood or stress levels.

  • Lifestyle habits may influence energy, movement, and recovery.

As a chiropractor, my role is to assess neuromusculoskeletal function and provide care within my scope to support your health goals—always in collaboration with you and, when appropriate, other healthcare providers.
